COUTO MIXTO -walking route-

“Couto Mixto” was an ancient independent territory with 700 years of history-century located in the “Raia Seca” – the border between Galicia and Portugal-. The three villages of Santiago, Rubiás and Meaus were united. In its best times mostly 1000 inhabitants used to live there. Nowadays this territory is almost uninhabited. This circular route connects the three villages following a small stretch of the ¨Camino Privilegiado” that used to unite the “Couto Mixto” with “Tourén” in Portugal. At the mountainous valley of the river “Salas” the history of this forgiven independent republic emerges.

  • Ideal route to experience with your dog.
  • Can be done in one go or in different lengths, there is a possibility to do part of the route by car or minibus. It is advisable to bring some snacks to do the route.
