"The flow of History" - Avia And Arenteiro Valleys

Interesting and simple hiking activity that takes us to know the confluence area of the rivers Avia and Arenteiro, within the region of O Ribeiro. This route takes us to know one of the most prosperous territories of medieval Galicia, it owes its fame to the splendor of the cultivation of the famous wine of O Ribeiro, second oldest D.O in Spain.

We will start the route in the village of Leiro, of medieval foundation. At all times we will walk near the river Avia first and the river Arenteiro in the second section of the route. We will see beautiful Romanesque churches like the one at Gomariz, bridges with historical tales such as "A Ponte da Cruz" or "A Ponte do Santo Sepulcro", gorgeous granite pools like the "Pozo dos Fumes", abandoned villages like "Viñoá" and many other characteristic elements of the traditional Ribeiro.

In Pazos de Arenteiro there will be a stop to interpret the history of this famous villa of stately origin, which had such importance in the economic development of O Ribeiro. Labyrinth of manor houses built in granite, in the middle of a lush and rich river valley.

In O Ribeiro nature and history are perfectly combined, this is an ideal territory to know it step by step letting us delight in its wealth.
