The visit to Santomé is fundamental to know the past of the city of ourense and also to know the transition from the galician prehistoric culture to romanization in Galicia. This enclave is located in a beautiful elevated place that offers wide views over the valley of the river Miño, has a very good orientation so it is also an ideal place to enjoy beautiful sunsets.

This complex consists of a late village from the "Castro" period (fortified village proper to the Iron Age in Galicia), dated around I to II a.C. A Galician-Roman agricultural villa with occupation between the s.III to the IV d.C. And also an occupation of Roman period around the s. I to the III d.C.

It is a little space that offers a condensed interpretation about the end of the Galician "Castro" culture, the coexistence of the "castro" with the first occupation of Roman age and the evolution of this coexistence towards Galaico-Roman culture. Different forms of life and explotation of the land, developed in the space of about 500 years and in the same territory over the valley of the river Miño.

In addition, this environment today is one of the lungs that surrounds the city of Ourense. It has an interesting display of wild flora, as well as a small geological attraction around the canyon of the river Loña.
